Partners to the Stockholm Region

The Assembly of European Regions (AER) is the largest independent network of regions in the wider Europe. Bringing together over 270 regions from 33 countries and 16 interregional organisations, AER's mission is to:

- Promote the principle of subsidiarity and regional democracy;
- Increase the regions' political influence within the European institutions;
- Support the regions in the process of European enlargement and globalisation;
- Facilitate interregional cooperation across wider Europe and beyond.

The Baltic Sea States Sub regional Co-operation (BSSSC) is a network for politicians at the regional level in different authorities in the Baltic Sea Region. Regions from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden are included. The organisation consists of one committee and three permanent working teams and two ad-hoc working teams. BSSSC is situated in Gdansk, Poland. Inger Linde from the county council in Stockholm is vice chairwoman in the committee of BSSSC.

Eurocities unite the cities in Europe which have more than 250,000 inhabitants. The organisation wants to promote the cities voice and needs in the European affairs and decisions. The organisation also wants to promote the transnational cooperation between the cities which share common challenges and solutions or cities which want to start a common EU-project. Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö are Swedish members of Eurocities. Stockholm is particular working for Telecities, which is the Eurocities' working team for IT-questions. For example is Stockholm included in the project "Global Cities Dialogue".

UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) is the international organisation promoting the local selfgovernments' dialogue with the UN-system. The network wants to be the united voice and world advocate of democratic local self-government, promoting its values, objectives and interests, through cooperation between local governments, and within the wider international community.

Metropolis is the World Association of Major Metropolises. Metropolis is also the metropolitan section of the United Cities & Local Government organization (UCLG), which arose from the merger between the IULA and UTO.

Its mission is to promote international cooperation and exchanges among members, i.e., local and metropolitan governments. Metropolis is the spokesperson on cities' interests in international forums.

The Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) unites more than 100 cities round the Baltic Sea. The organisation contributes to create the relationships, both culture and economics, between the cities lying around the Baltic Sea. With cooperation and exchange of best practice they want to contribute to the integration of the Baltic Sea region. There are three municipals from the Stockholm region; Nacka, Norrtälje and Stockholm, have joined the cooperation.

Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions of Europe (CPMR) is an organisation for peripheral regions, which means that they are situated at the edge of the European Union or have extensive sea borders. Today the organisation has 149 members of regions within and outside the European Union. The organisations work carries on in seven geographical committees. Anders Gustáv, municipal council in Solna is the chairman in the Baltic Sea Commission (BSC).

Edge Cities is a network who brings together towns and cities on the edge of the major Capitals of Europe. These municipal authorities have all identified that they face the common economic and social challenges. The network was launched by Croydon Council in 1996 and have nine members: Croydon, (at the edge of London) North Down, (edge of Belfast) Kifissia, (edge of Athens) Getafe, (edge of Madrid) Fingal, (edge of Dublin) Espoo, (edge of Helsinki) Nacka (edge of Stockholm) Loures, (edge of Lisbon) and Ballerup, (edge of Copenhagen). European Network of Social Authorities (ENSA) is a network of cities and European Regions that has the aim of promoting international cooperation in the social field. ENSA represents an opportunity for local and Regional Authorities to participate actively in European policy making and programmes. Members from the Stockholm region are: Eskilstuna, Nacka, SLL, Solna, Stockholms Stad, Uppsala and Västerås.

European Local Inclusion and Social Action Network (ELISAN) is the first European network of local elected representatives from the social sector. ELISAN's legal status allows it to take specific action to enable a social Europe. The main objective of ELISAN is to contribute to a dynamic of social growth and development for all the citizens, all over Europe.

 

The Stockholm Region representation is a member of the Elisan network.

The Eurotowns network was established in 1991 as the Europe-wide network for towns and cities with populations between 50,000 and 250,000. Towns and cities of this size play a significant part in the economic and social life of Europe. The Eurotowns network aims to ensure that this fact is properly reflected in the development of European legislation. There are currently 21 towns and cities in membership of Eurotowns.

 

From the Stockholm region, the municipality of Eskilstuna  is a member of the network.

The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas (METREX) provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge, expertise and experience on metropolitan affairs, and joint action on issues of common interest. The Network has members from some 50 metropolitan regions and areas and partners in many others.

Baltic Metropoles Network (BaltMet) represents a forum for capitals and large metropolitan cities around the Baltic Sea. The main goal of the network is to promote innovativeness and competitiveness in the Baltic Sea Region by engaging cities, as well as academic and business partners, into close cooperation. The city of Stockholm is a member of BaltMet, where especially the Stockholm Business Region is actively involved.

EU2020 Regions Network is a network where 15 different european regions cooperate for promoting the importance and involvement of regions in the work of reaching the goals of the EU2020 strategy.
