The Stockholm Region EU Office is a nonprofit organization. Members include the City of Stockholm, Stockholm County Council, Stockholm County Association of Local Authorities, Uppsala Regional Council, Sörmland Regional Council, Västmanland Association of Local Authorities and County Council, and the Council for the Mälar Region.
The Stockholm Region EU Office was formally founded on 1 January 2011. The organization is the result of a reorganization and liquidation of the economic association Stockholm Region EU Committee which was active in Stockholm, Brussels, Warsaw and St. Petersburg between the years 2000-2010. The initiative to cooperate on EU affairs and establish an office in Brussels was however taken in 1996 by the City of Stockholm.
The organization's operations are conducted in the form of the company Stockholm Region EU Office Inc. located in Brussels and Stockholm.
The objectives of the Stockholm Region EU Office are to encourage members of the Stockholm-Mälar region and promote their economic interests by providing them services related to EU affairs.
The Stockholm Region EU Office keeps an active dialogue with its members and with organizations such as the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, government, parliament, ministries, universities, colleges and industrial organizations. The office follows the work of the EU institutions and establishes contacts with decision makers and organizations to influence EU policies and programs. The office also supports its members in connection with plenary sessions of the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.
The Stockholm Region EU Office works to create conditions for fruitful cooperatione between cities and regions in Europe, and participate in relevant networks. The board of the Stockholm Region EU Office resides in Stockholm. The board consists of politicians from the member organizations.
