8-9 June 2004 | Workshop on Local Action Plans for Social Inclusion

The City of Stockholm together with EUROCITIES organised a workshop on how cities can develop their own Local Action Plans (LAPs) in favour of social inclusion in the context of the National Action Plans (NAPs) for social inclusion which are being implemented in all of the EU Member States in the framework of the Lisbon Strategy, and the so-called "open method of coordination".

The CASE project (Cities Actions Against Social Exclusion) was used as starting point for identifying and exchanging examples of best practise. The aim of this process is to help cities to effectively contribute to tackling poverty and overcoming social exclusion at local level, by learning from existing examples of good practise and developing their own Local Action Plans (LAPs).

The 16 participants from 9 European cities agreed to continue this work through informal working groups looking at the development and identification of soft indicators and benchmarks, the possible development of "knowledge broker centres", and the development of introduction packages enabling a more structured participation in the National Action Plans for social inclusion.
